Engagement rings

An engagement ring is the one piece where guessing costs the most. The setting, the metal, the shape of the stone and how high it sits are all choices your partner may already have opinions on.

This shelf covers solitaires, halos, hidden halos, three-stone rings and vintage-inspired settings from partner retailers. Each design shows its full price range across metals and stone sizes, and you buy on the retailer's own site.

What to look for

  • Stone shape changes the look more than size does. Round is the classic; oval, pear and emerald cuts look larger for the same carat weight.
  • A hidden halo adds sparkle from the side without changing how the ring looks from above.
  • If you know their metal, start there. White gold and platinum look alike; platinum is heavier and does not need re-plating.
  • Your partner can mark the rings they love as hints, so you choose from pieces they picked, and the proposal is still yours.

Not sure what they would choose?

On The Perfect Hint, your partner marks the pieces they would actually wear as hints, and you browse a catalog ranked by their taste. They never see what you bought.
